Our Planet

Working today for a better tomorrow

A Lean, Mean, Green Machine

As a Certified B Corp, AMS is thoroughly committed to the environment. Our company culture promotes “thinking green” in our day-to-day lives, and we support local initiatives to help clean environmentally sensitive areas.

AMS has been a green fulfillment services company from the start, committed to proper recycling of bottles and cans, corrugate materials and plastics. Over time, our commitment has evolved into a companywide effort to go green wherever possible — from the goods we purchase to the practices we undertake to lessen our ecological footprint and that of our clients.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

The Green Team at AMS reviewed our processes in detail. In addition to replacing traditional cleaning supplies with earth-friendly bulk products featuring refillable dispensers, we are eliminating paper usage wherever possible as we move toward electronic and hand-held technologies.

The team enhanced our recycling capabilities by adding corrugate bailers in every facility, and our recycling partner accepts “sandwiches” that combine plastic and corrugate together in bails. Separate receptacles for plastic, corrugate, aluminum, wood and non-recyclables are found throughout our facilities.

We recycle:

  • All used corrugated boxes, paperboard and related material used in our warehousing and fulfillment processes
  • All office paper products including copy paper, magazines and cardboard
  • All soda containers, bottles, glass and other recyclables consumed by employees

Fulfillment companies are in a unique position in the global effort to protect our planet’s natural resources, and AMS makes a difference:

  • We encourage our clients and packers to select right-size shipping packaging, reducing the need for void fill or dunnage and decreasing the cube on trucks and aircraft.
  • We use paper dunnage and water-soluble packing peanuts; we do not use foam unless required by a client or specific need.
  • We ensure that our procurement team works with suppliers that are like-minded in their approach to the environment.

Good for You and Good for the World

Momentum is growing internationally for the reduction or elimination of single-use packaging. Consumers are demanding more sustainable packing materials. In a 2019 study, half of consumers in the United States and the United Kingdom reported that they are consciously trying to cut down on the amount of single-use plastic they consume, while 42% stated that choosing products made from recyclable or sustainable materials plays an important role in their shopping decisions. *

At AMS, our Green Team has been researching the latest in outside packaging and inside void fill. Hemp products are very versatile with different hemp materials creating biopolymers that can be used in many facets of the plastics industry. And many other solutions are currently in development, such as:

  • Biodegradable plastic pellets from the paper industry
  • Fully recyclable polystyrene packaging from the areca palm leaf
  • Bioplastic derived from potato industry residues
  • Containers created from sugar cane and corn starch derived from industrial waste products
  • Water-soluble and biodegradable thermoplastic pellets based on casein, a milk protein
  • Bio resin systems that bind natural fibers such as flax, hemp, pineapple, palm leaves, cotton, banana and jute
  • Packaging material derived from seaweed and other plant materials
  • Biodegradable Styrofoam that can compost in less than 9 weeks, without emitting carbon dioxide, heavy metals or methane
