What are Value-Added Services?

VAS - AMS Fulfillment

VAS - AMS FulfillmentWe often talk about the benefits of partnering with AMS Fulfillment, and we emphasize the fact that AMS is a Full-Service Fulfillment Provider. To be described as Full-Service, the fulfillment services need to include everything a client/partner would need.

Many of the services of a fulfillment company are to be expected, i.e. receiving, warehousing, pick & pack, shipping, shared technology, covering all of the usual needs. But that’s not what makes us Full-Service. There are quite a few other services our clients may need, and Full-Service means we can cover them all. Our clients know they can come to us with various refined and specialized needs.

Some of our clients may require branded packaging in order to please the customer with some unboxing fun. We can do that. Other clients may need us to complete the assembly of their product. We can do that too. That and a whole lot more. Let’s look into the question of… what are Value-Added Services, also referred to as VAS.

Describing VAS

Here below is how Google describes VAS:

“Value-added services (VAS) in fulfillment are specialized, non-standard activities—such as custom packaging, kitting, labeling, and inspection—performed by 3PLs to improve product presentation, speed, and customer experience. These services go beyond basic storage and shipping to streamline operations, reduce retailer compliance risks, and support branding.”

AMS gets more specific:

“As a major, high-capacity player in the world of pick pack ship fulfillment, we are also very nimble and accommodating to the brands we serve.  At AMS, we have engineers, equipment, and expertise in a variety of special handling services, including large scale kit assembly, product-relabeling or packaging, B2B routing-based VAS work (e.g. price stickering, hang tags, hanger insertion/removal, compliance labeling), B2C branded pack-outs… and even higher-end product manipulation work such as engraving!”

Services Included

Let’s say the client sells subscription boxes or gift boxes containing a high-end brand of beauty products. Assembling these products into one package is called Kitting and Assembly. AMS has a team for Kitting and Assembly.

We mentioned the use of branded packaging. Clients also may need custom packaging or specialized packaging, and the AMS team does this as well. As we mentioned, we do price stickering, hang tags, hanger insertion/removal, compliance labeling, price stickers, SKU labels – everything our clients need, we provide. We do gift wrapping too if our clients need.

If a client needs us to inspect their products to search for defects, we can do that. We can provide quality control and functional testing to make sure the product is working properly. We also can provide final assembly, such as inserting batteries or adding accessories to products before shipping.

A bit more from AMS: “AMS does it all in the world of eCommerce order fulfillment, including our sophisticated gift note capabilities, allowing for customized gift messages to be printed on a variety of paper stocks at the time of packing.”

Other Services

There are other specialized services that don’t fall into the VAS category. We do Returns Management for our clients, also referred to as Reverse Logistics, and we provide Customer Service and Back Office Support as well. All of these services add up to Full-Service Fulfillment.

We’re a pretty big player in the world of warehousing services. Our systems are built to excel at the basics of Value-Added Services, and we’re open to challenges that go well beyond the basics in VAS. In other words… AMS does it all in the world of eCommerce order fulfillment!
