Thank You to Our Veterans

Veterans - AMS Fulfillment

Veterans - AMS FulfillmentWe’ll begin this message with a salute to All AMS Associates who have served or are serving in a branch of the US Military – Thank You to our AMS Veterans! Our appreciation goes out to Veterans among our AMS Fulfillment clients as well. We recognize and thank you for your service.

Veteran’s Day is taking place on November 11th. It is a federal holiday, not just a commemoration. The history of this holiday is an interesting story. We went to the History website [LINK] to look into how it came to be!

The History

“Veterans Day is a U.S. legal holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars, and Veterans Day 2025 will occur on Tuesday, November 11. In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I, then known as “the Great War.”

“Commemorated in many countries as Armistice Day the following year, November 11th became a federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became known as Veterans Day.”

Veteran’s Day is celebrated on November 11th, no matter what day of the week the 11th falls on. This year it falls on a Tuesday. It was in 1954 that the veterans of World War II and the Korean war lobbied for the inclusion of all veterans in the commemoration, and it was President Eisenhauer who signed it into law. The intention was, and is, to honor all American veterans, from all wars, whether living or dead.

Current Needs of Veterans

As we know, a number of our military veterans are dealing with health issues, both mental and physical. There may have been exposure to hazardous materials, there may have been traumatic brain injury, or other issues such as PTSD or depression. Military service can involve direct conflict and violence, and these experiences oftentimes have health consequences.

When we asked Google what kind of support veterans need, this was our answer:

“Mental health: Support for PTSD, depression, substance use disorders, and military sexual trauma is crucial. Suicide prevention remains a top priority.

“Physical health: Addressing chronic illnesses, injuries (including traumatic brain injury), and conditions like vision and hearing loss is necessary. Care for issues related to exposure to hazardous materials is also a significant need.

“Support services: Veterans need access to assisted living and home health care, especially as they age. This includes comprehensive women’s health care needs and support for conditions like infertility.

“Employment: Many veterans struggle to find a purposeful career and report issues with finding a job, which is a leading challenge.

“Housing: Veteran homelessness is a major concern, and veterans need assistance with securing stable housing and adjusting to providing for basic necessities like food and clothing.”

Supporting Our Veterans

There are a number of organizations supporting our veterans. We’re offering a brief list below, and we recommend that readers find one that connects with them personally… one they would like to support or one for which they can volunteer.

Homes For Our Troops” is an organization that builds and donates specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans. “Fisher House Foundation” is an organization that provides comfort homes on hospital grounds, allowing families to stay close to their loved ones during treatment. “Gary Sinise Foundation” offers adapted homes and equipment, caregiver training, and other support for injured veterans and first responders. “Operation Homefront” is an organization that provides rent-free transitional housing and financial assistance for critical needs like rent, mortgage payments, and home repairs.

There are additional charities that support mental and physical health. These include “K9s for Warriors”, “Semper Fi & America’s Fund”, and “Wounded Warrior Project”. Both “DAV (Disabled American Veterans)” and “VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars)” help veterans with their VA claims, to make sure they receive their benefits, and “Operation Second Chance” provides financial assistance.

Veteran Employment

With regard to employment, of course AMS Fulfillment is proud to hire veterans, and there are veterans in our employ, both in executive and associate positions.

We will close with once again thanking our employees who are veterans for their sacrifice and their service. Veteran’s Day is a day to honor those who have served and those who are currently serving. Volunteering to serve in the US military truly is honorable, and we are grateful to all. Thank You.
